Heathcliff is inspired by the then-popular radio show Duffy’s Tavern. The radio program influenced other similar “dopey simpleton“-type characters such as Filligan from Hush My Mouse, Junyer Bear, and Baby Huey from Famous Studios’ Noveltoons.
