The Dynamic Duo made the jump from the TV scene to the movie scene – Batman, The Movie, premiered in Austin, Texas on this date.
Originally planned as the pilot story for the TV series Batman, the film was then made and released between the end of season 1 of the TV series and the beginning of season 2 in order to cash in on its popularity after the TV series ended up both being produced and premiering months ahead of schedule. The producers took advantage of the film’s larger budget (when compared to that of the TV series) to have a number of new Bat-vehicles constructed, such as the Batboat, the Batcopter, and the Batcycle.
