Columbia Pictures released the neo-noir film, The Big Easy, directed by Jim McBride, written by Daniel Petrie Jr, and starring Dennis Quaid, Ellen Barkin, John Goodman, and Ned Beatty, on this date.
It was reported that Robert Redford had to literally dragged producer David Puttnam, who was the CEO of Columbia Pictures at the time, to a screening of the film at the Sundance Film Festival. Afterwards, Puttnam then picked-up the picture for distribution.
