Hurry up to check it out, before it’s gone

The grooved lines on a stretch of the eastbound Route 66, near Tijeras, New Mexico, just east of Albuquerque, will sing for you.

On this quarter-mile section of the highway, the rumble strips have been engineered to sound like the song America the Beautiful.

But they won’t croon their patriotic tune for anyone with a lead foot. Drivers have to be going exactly 45 miles per hour (the speed limit) to hear the vibrations in action. (Unfortunately bunkies, a little bit more research has revealed that the series of rumble strips that play the tune aren’t being maintained, and there’s no guarantee that they’ll be around for much longer. Plus, the grooves that create the vibrations have slowly worn down, making the song a bit out of tune. )

But what the hell do you care, Halloween is in two days and your local elections are in 10 days. I bet if you dig around in any purses in your house (assuming someone in your house has a purse,)

you could find some individual altoid mints to give out to the neighborhood kids should they come to your house treat or treating this year. Or better yet, look through your office desk for some unused Post-it pads.
